Sun. June 8th: STC UCC Offering

The Strengthen the Church (STC) Offering reflects the shared commitment of people across the United Church of Christ to cooperatively build up the UCC. Conferences and the national setting equally share the gifts given by members and friends through their local congregations. The funds raised support leadership development, new churches, youth ministry, and innovation in existing congregations.  By your generosity to this offering, you build up the Body of Christ.

As God calls our congregations to be the church in new ways, your generosity will plant new churches, awaken new ideas in existing churches and develop the spiritual life in our youth and young adults.

Brookmeade will collect the STC offering on Sunday, June 8th. You can send a check to the office, bring a check on Sunday, or donate online via Tithe.ly, choosing “STC Offering” in the drop-down menu.

UCC Call to Action

“As Mother’s Day approaches, we know that all our moms deserve much more financial, emotional, and physical support. Children are blessings, who model for us what it means to follow Jesus and help all of us see Christ’s love for the world.

Yet Congress is currently considering cutting the funding it provides for children and new parents. Cutting this funding would reduce assistance that helps children in families with low incomes get enough to eat, see a doctor when they are sick, and meet their basic needs and thrive. This assistance is essential for our children’s health and wellbeing.

Moms deserve to not have to worry about if they will be able to afford their child’s healthcare, or if they will be able to provide them with a filling meal. Yet in one of the richest countries in the world, our Congress is making these cuts to programs supporting children to fund tax cuts for billionaires. Tell Congress NO MORE sacrificing our moms and kids to line the pockets of the rich.” – UCC

Sunday, May 4th kicks off our Re-Visioning Process with a Potluck Lunch and Mini-Retreat!

Hello Brookmeade Community!

This is an invitation to participate in our Re-visioning Process beginning this Sunday, May 4th. Rev. Kim Wood will be joining us for worship Sunday morning, and then following worship, we will share together in a Potluck Lunch and a mini-retreat to begin the work of our visioning process to give us some direction and structure for our future ministry together. Please consider giving your time, energy, and thoughtfulness to this process.

Following the mini-retreat, we will gather in small groups to have discussions that will lead to our materials for our future ministries. Each group will decide when it is best to meet for their group. We will have three meetings in four weeks.

Then June 1st we will gather again as a large group to receive a report and offer some brainstorming for the work we produce from this part of the process.

Finally, Sunday, June 8th, we will celebrate Pentecost with what God has provided, and prepare to commit to digging into the work that follows.

Whatever you can offer to the process will be a blessing to Brookmeade’s future ministry. We look forward to seeing you there and to your commitment to our future together. You do not need to be a member to participate in the conversation. All are welcome at the table!
