Worship

When you pull up to our church Sunday morning for our 10:30-11:30am service, you’ll encounter a beautiful mid-century modern building surrounded by trees and greenery. Coming up to the front doors, you’ll see our Brookmeade cross and bell on the front lawn which used to signal the start of service. You’ll also see a sculpture made for our church by William Ralston, and just beyond that, the front door with a pride flag in the corner. When you enter those doors, you’ll be greeted by one of our members, who will point out our children’s quiet-time bags, our nursery with childcare for those kindergarten age and below, our all-gender restrooms, and—of course—our sanctuary.

You’ll find that Brookmeaders dress in a variety of ways from casual to formal and invite you to wear whatever makes you comfortable. We hope that you’ll grab a bulletin, sign your name in our visitor’s book on the way in, and find a seat in one of our comfortable chairs and enjoy worshipping with us! You might even get to enjoy the view of some monarch butterflies flying around our milkweed garden through our sanctuary window.

Our service follows the traditional format of hymns and liturgy but isn’t filled with the old traditional language. At Brookmeade we try to use gender-neutral language for God, talk about God’s kin-dom rather than Kingdom, and regularly bring our hopes and prayers for social justice into our worship.

We share communion on the first Sunday of the month where all are welcome to participate regardless of denomination or belief system. If you attend on the fifth Sunday of the month, you’ll enjoy the special treat of joining us for one of our Music Sundays in which our worship is focused around singing and the reading of poems and scripture from the Inclusive Bible translation.

Following service, you are welcome to stay and join us for Coffee Fellowship where we enjoy catching up with one another and eating good food. When the weather is nice, we like to eat outside together on our basketball court and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation.

If you are unable to participate in our in-person worship, we also post our services each Monday on our YouTube channel! Sign up for our mailing list to get notified each time a video gets posted, and subscribe to our channel on YouTube. You can also find our previous services on our channel or by going to our Sermon Archive. We also encourage you to look at our COVID-19 Guidelines that our congregation is currently following.

We’d love to get to know you, and are happy to talk about more ways you can Get Involved with Brookmeade outside of Sunday mornings!
