Brookmeade is excited to welcome Dahron Johnson as our guest preacher this Sunday, June 30th! Dahron Johnson, a clinically-trained chaplain who is licensed in the United Church of Christ, works with a number of local and state groups, including the community advisory boards for the Kennedy Center; the Program for LGBTQ+ Health at VUMC; and the Board of the community leadership development group, Neighbor 2 Neighbor. Her activism work, though, has its home with the Tennessee Equality Project, a group dedicated to legislative advocacy for LGBTQ+  Tennesseans.  Dahron was recently elected by the Metro Council of Nashville & Davidson County to serve on its Human Relations Commission, and has testified before TN General Assembly Senate and House committees on multiple occasions. In January 2024, serving as Chaplain of the Day, Chaplain Johnson became the first openly trans person to speak from the floor of the Tennessee House—also believed to be the first time nationally that an out trans person has offered prayer in any state legislature.

There will be no yoga class during the month of July, but we will return to our usual meeting time on Monday afternoons in August! Please contact the church office for more information.

First Sundays of the month we collect our COW (“Contribute Our Wealth”) Offering. Monetary donations are split between Second Harvest of Middle TN and Heifer International. You can also bring canned goods on Sunday morning to donate to Second Harvest. Please designate your check for COW Offering or if you give online you can choose COW offering on the drop-down menu on Tithe.ly. This Sunday, June 30th there will be a Congregational Meeting following worship and an extended fellowship time. Please attend in person as you are able so that you can participate in the discussion and be prepared for the vote we need to take. We are currently beginning to organize transportation from Nashville to Washington DC for the Poor People’s Campaign March on Washington Saturday June 29th. There has been a grant provided for the transportation, so we are hoping to make it either very low cost or no cost to those attending. We are expecting that it will be a bus trip overnight one way, and overnight the way home and expect to return in time for worship on Sunday. If you are interested in joining us for the march please email Pastor Liz and indicate your interest. 

Brookmeade UCC and FUUN (First Unitarian Universalist Church of Nashville) will be sharing a joint worship service hosted at FUUN (1808 Woodmont Blvd, Nashville). The worship will begin at 10 am. Pastor Liz will be preaching, and Rev. Wesley King will lead music. We will continue our Pride Sermon Series The Good News of Broadway (In Musicals). We hope you will plan to join us in person or online! Please note there will not be a service held at the Brookmeade building Sunday, 6/23.

Brookmeade is so excited to once again have a booth at the Nashville Pride Festival which will be held in downtown Nashville the weekend of Sat. June 22nd and Sun. June 23rd, featuring spectacular musical performances and fun for the whole family! Our booth will be open from 11 am to 5 pm both days, so feel free to come say hello and find out more about our open and affirming community, where you can belong no matter where you are on life’s journey!

Thursday, June 20, 7:00 pm, at Christ Church Cathedral 900 Broadway, Nashville. This service will include worship, fellowship, Eucharist for all who would like to receive it, and a celebration of God’s beautiful diversity! We will have the opportunity to hear Chaplin Dahron Johnson preach, and Pastor Liz will be one of the celebrants on the chancel for the Eucharist. We hope you will put it on your calendar and join us of this special community worship experience, and bring your friends!

Hosted by First Unitarian Universalist church of Nashville (FUUN) 1808 Woodmont Blvd, Nashville. Wednesday June 12th 6:30 pm. This event is an ecumenical event for people of many different faith traditions and no faith tradition, all are welcome and included in this gathering to honor the spiritual nature of us all. For those interested in singing with a large group choir join us at 5:30 pm for rehearsal.
