This Lenten season from Sunday March 6th through Sunday April 3rd, we are asking you to bring your loose change to church! Our Change for Change fundraiser will be done in collaboration with Holy Trinity Community Church. Which church do you think can collect the most pounds of coins over the month of Lent? This fundraiser will benefit Room in the Inn, a nonprofit organization that serves individuals experiencing homelessness in the Nashville area. So start turning over your couch cushions, filling your change jars, and checking your pockets so that your change can be a part of bringing change!
Wed. March 2nd: Ash Wednesday Service
We invite all who are able to come and join in a short hour of praise, devotion, and the receiving of ashes on Wednesday, March 2nd at 7pm at our sister UCC, Holy Trinity Community Church (located at 6727 Charlotte Pike #4235, Nashville, TN 37209). Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent. During this time, we remember God’s love that was shown to us through the life and ministry of Jesus. Pastor Laura will participate in giving a short devotional message while HTCC’s worship team will lead us in music. We invite all Brookmeaders to be a part of this collaborative devotion as we enter the Lenten season.
NEW Upper Room Devotionals for March-April

New issues of the UPPER ROOM daily devotional for March-April are now available without cost in the vestibule of the church. Along with daily scripture readings & meditations, this issue contains a thoughtful article entitled “Remembering Our Humanity” by someone with Nashville roots: Rev. Cameron Barr, Senior Pastor at United Church of Chapel Hill (North Carolina), one of the most vibrant & growing UCC churches in the nation!
While attending Vanderbilt Divinity School, Cameron was a Pastoral Intern at Howard Congregational Church, one of our beloved UCC sister churches in Nashville and was also on staff at Brookmeade for a while during the pastorship of Rev. Linda White.
Along with being senior pastor at Chapel Hill and having a family with his husband (Jackson Den Herder), Cameron serves as Chair of our national Board of Directors of the United Church of Christ! Get your UPPER ROOM copy to read Cameron Barr’s article and to have daily set-aside time for prayer & meditation on sacred scriptures.

We hope to see you all there!

Saturday, Feb. 12th: “Rock ‘n’ Roll with the Gardening Team!

*Attention: Rock ‘n’ Roll with the Gardening Team
Moved to Saturday 2/12
Due to the expectation of extreme cold weather this weekend, we have decided to move this event to Saturday, February 12th at 9 am. We are in need of some folks with strong backs who can help move rocks and stones from the Foster Memorial Garden area up to our building for use in the future Memorial and Meditation Garden. We will use wheelbarrows to transport the rocks so if you have one, please bring it along with spade and work gloves. It’s estimated we have hundreds of rocks to move but many hands will help lighten the load. We will meet at 9 AM and should be done well before noon. Please contact the church office if you are able to help!
New Learn & Grow Series and Time Change

Learn & Grow is a time of study and reflection on the Bible, theology, and the issues of today. We now meet on Zoom each Thursday at 7:00 pm.
NEW STUDY! January 13 – February 24, 2022 – Manna and Mercy by Daniel Erlander
From the Introduction: “This is a booklet about God–more specifically the God of the Bible who is present and active in human history and in all creation… I am convinced that no one writes about the Bible without seeing through the eyeglasses of a point of view. In this study the lens through which I see the entire Bible is the Jesus story, the Christ event. Therefore, parts of the Bible come clearly into focus–those parts which envision a just, merciful, peaceful, inclusive, and non hierarchical society. Other parts recede–those which tend toward ethnocentrism, exclusion, patriarchy, and domination.” Why does Brookmeade care about social justice? Manna and Mercy will show us how the message of social justice runs through the entire Bible.
Find the link to join in your weekly email, or by emailing the church office (brookmeade@comcast.net).
