Sunday, October 10th: Nature Sunday and Potluck

We are so excited to have Nature Sunday again in the park! We will have our Nature Sunday worship service on Sunday, October 10th at 10:30 am outdoors at Edwin Warner Park, Shelter 10. Please bring camp chairs if you are able, extra clothing layers, hats and sunscreen to prepare for any type of weather. We will have a potluck picnic following the service. There is no electricity for keeping food warm at the shelter so please bring insulated bags or food that can be served at room temperature. We look forward to enjoying time in nature together at the beautiful Edwin Warner park!

Address for Edwin Warner Park: 50 Vaughn Road, Nashville, TN 37221

Neighbors in Need UCC Special Mission Offering

“Neighbors in Need (NIN) is a special mission offering of the United Church of Christ that supports ministries of justice and compassion in the United States… In 2021, Neighbors in Need “Unfailing Love” offering is focused on supporting organizations and projects that are serving homeless and immigrant neighbors or communities. One-third of NIN funds support the Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM). Two-thirds of this offering is used by the UCC’s Justice and Witness Ministries (JWM) to provide funding grants to UCC churches and organizations leading justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects in their communities.”

Brookmeade will be collecting for NIN during the month of October, starting this Sunday, October 3rd. You can bring or mail a check to the church office and write “NIN Offering” in the memo line, or when you donate online with Tithely, choose “NIN Offering” from the drop-down menu.

Learn & Grow is a time of study and reflection on the Bible, theology, and the issues of today. We meet on Zoom each Thursday at 7:30 pm for about an hour or so. Starting this Thursday, September 2nd, we will take a look at climate change using the book “The Future We Choose: The Stubborn Optimist’s Guide to the Climate Crisis” by Christiana Figueres and Tom Rivett-Carnac. As Christians, we believe we are stewards of this world. Let’s learn together the small and large steps we can take to protect our planet. UCC Appeal for Haiti

Haitians Are Desperate for Our Help!

As you know, Haiti has received triple blows in less than two months: the assassination of its president, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake on the peninsula just west of Port-au-Prince, and devastating rain in the same area from Tropical Storm Grace. The earthquake destroyed over 136,000 buildings in the capital leaving much of its population without any shelter from the rain and wind of the storm. And the assassination has thrown Haiti’s government into chaos, severely impairing its ability to respond to these two natural disasters.

The UCC has asked its members to send at least $100,000 to help Haiti. You can contribute through Brookmeade’s Tithe.ly app by selecting “UCC Haiti Relief” from its drop-down menu, by check to Brookmeade with “UCC Haiti Relief” on the memo line, or by contributing directly and securely to the UCC effort through this link: https://www.ucc.org/ucc-issues-100000-appeal-for-haiti-after-7-2-earthquake-tropical-storm/

Food and medical supplies and aid workers are all desperately needed. Please give, knowing that these are God’s children in need.

Sunday, September 5th: Contribute Our Wealth Offering

First Sundays of the month we collect our COW Offering. Monetary donations are split between Second Harvest of Middle TN and Heifer International. You can also bring canned goods on Sunday morning to donate to Second Harvest. Please designate your check for COW Offering or if you give online you can choose COW offering on the drop-down menu on Tithe.ly. Thank you for supporting these important organizations!
