Saturday, June 25^th is the Nashville Pride Festival. Brookmeade UCC has been a long-time participant in the Nashville Pride Festival. It is very important to show our support for this community of Nashvillians as well as very meaningful to our LBGTQ members to have our presence as a church at this event. Please consider signing up to staff our booth. It is a fun day to be part of the spirit and pride. Set-up would be between 8:30 and 10am. The festival runs from 10am-6pm.  Grab a friend and come staff the table and chat with everyone in Nashville. Tony E. has more information.

Pride Spirituality Night will be held June 15^th at 7 pm at Benton Chapel, 411 21st Ave. South. Benton Chapel is on Vanderbilt’s campus. Supporting churches and organizations are asked to have a representative from their community give a 5-10 minute positive presentation that reflects their church or organization’s beliefs and way of being a spiritual community. This may be anyway that would connect and teach people about our church (a talk, song, musical group, guitar, piano, etc.) Anyone in Brookmeade’s community is welcome to participate in the program and we will be there to support you. Sunday, May 29th is our Teacher Appreciation Day to honor all the parents and friends who have taught and mentored the Brookmeade Youth this year. It is also the 5th Sunday of the month – Music Sunday! Our theme for Music Sunday is Gratitude and Thankfulness. If you have any hymn suggestions please send them to the church office by  Wednesday May 25th. There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board in the hallway for those who would like to contribute a special song, poem, reading, dance or any other artistic offering! Please sign up by Sun. May 22nd or you can call the church office no later than Wedns. May 25th if you’d like to participate.

Beyond Sunday School

On Sunday, June 12^th, Brookmeade will be holding our Nature Sunday Worship Service at Edwin Warner Park – 10:30 am at Picnic area/Shelter #10. This is a casual day where we will have a short time of worship followed by a picnic-potluck lunch, outdoor games and an optional nature walk. Please bring a dish to share (there is a signup sheet in the fellowship hall), and feel free to bring outdoor sports equipment and games if desired. You may want to bring water shoes for the kids as there is a creek near the shelter. Please bring sunscreen, blankets, camping chairs, hats, etc. The deacons will be providing ice and bottled water. There will not be services at Brookmeade on this day. The park is located off Hwy 100, at the corner of Old Hickory Blvd and Vaughn Road in Bellevue. Hannah Hafez from the Islamic Center of Nashville will be at Brookmeade UCC to offer a presentation on “Islam 101”. In this divisive time, we aim to deepen our understanding of our Muslim neighbors in Nashville. The presentation will start at 12-noon and last approximately one-hour, including Q&A time. You are welcome to invite friends and neighbors to attend. Ms. Hafez is a student at Belmont University and an outreach-facilitator for the Nashville Islamic Center at 12 South.

Brookmeade Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, announces that it has called a new minister, the Reverend Sharon Temple.

Rev. Temple comes to Brookmeade UCC after serving congregations in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Louisiana. She earned a B.S. degree in Medical Technology from Louisiana Tech University and a Master of Divinity from Palmer Theological Seminary. She also has specialty training and experience in peer mentoring, personal and business coaching, transition ministry, and church growth.

“Rev. Temple is passionate about helping individuals and groups bridge the gap from where they are to where they want to be,” said Raymond White, Brookmeade’s Moderator. “In our Search Committee conversations with her, it was clear that she enjoys partnering with congregations to find, as she says, ‘ever more creative and extravagant ways to share the good news of God’s love.’ We are pleased and excited to have Sharon join us in our quest to be a voice for progressive Christianity in Nashville.”

“I am delighted to be called to Nashville to serve Jesus alongside the folks at Brookmeade Congregational UCC,” Rev. Temple said. “Like me, they are openly progressive and energetic in working for justice and peace. They are also full of joy and lots of fun! We come together knowing that God’s Spirit is moving among us, leading us into an exciting future.”

Rev. Temple’s ministry officially begins Sunday, Nov. 8, with a Blessing of Ministry at the 10:30 a.m. worship service, 700 Bresslyn Road in West Nashville. All are welcome!
