Sun. March 26th: One Great Hour of Sharing Offering

One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) offering will be taken on March 26th. This is one of five special National UCC offerings. The theme this year is “You are here” which could easily be the response to a question provoked by tragedy, fear or suffering. As soon as a person calls on God, God is here. OGHS enables the United Church of Christ to reach people and communities affected by disaster, displacement or poverty. OGHS shows the church uniting to respond to the many critical needs present in our world today. Our support is given through partner organizations responding to health, education and agricultural development needs, refugee initiatives and both international and domestic disaster response. Please use the special envelopes for your contribution, every gift allows us to say “You are here”.

Starting Wed. Mar. 1st: Finding Grace in the Desert – a Lenten Study

Wednesdays at noon at Brookmeade UCC, starting Wed. March 1st.
Finding Grace in the Desert:
The desert of lent and these dry times can leave us parched and weary.
You are invited to find and help create a space of prayer, rest and discernment in this season.
This weekly contempletive group will explore wisdom and teachings from Christian mystics including the Desert Mothers and Fathers in order to help us listen and share in God’s Grace.
This gathering will include a time for centering prayer, lectio divina, and other contemplative practices as well as a time to share and talk with one another that we may quench our souls in God’s love and find our way forward.
Rachel Kinney graduated from Vanderbilt Divinity School in 2014 and has been practicing centering prayer for ten years.

Starting Sun. Feb. 26th: Unearthing Subversive Imagination – a Lenten Study

Unearthing Subversive Imagination: A Lenten Journey for Adults and Youth

Sundays from 9:15-10:15 a.m., Beginning Sunday, Feb. 26

We will use the book The Prophetic Imagination by renowned theologian Walter Brueggemann. About the book: “Writing in a popular, conversational style, Walter Brueggemann shows what the prophetic imagination is and why it can transform the present in powerful and unexpected ways . . . A clear understanding of the prophetic imagination, combining its rich Old Testament heritage and the prophetic ministry of Jesus, leads to the development of an alternative consciousness for our time.”

Our leaders will be student pastors Marty and Angela.

To be part of this experience:

  • Sign up on the sheet in Fellowship Hall
  • Pay $10.00 for book (cash or check made out to Brookmeade)
  • You will be contacted about something to do before the first session on Feb. 26
