Sanctified Art: “Words for the Beginning”

We are excited to once again be using artwork, daily devotionals, poetry, and other Advent resources through Sanctified Art! Check our social media (Facebook and Instagram) throughout the season of Advent for daily inspiration and reflection. Advent Calendars and Daily Devotionals will be available for pick up this Sunday. Check your weekly email for a link to access a digital copy of the Advent devotional.

We hope you will join us on this Advent journey in person (with services beginning at 10 am from 12/1-12/22) or online on our Youtube Livestream)!

Sun. Dec. 8th: Special Learn & Grow Event!

Our usual Learn & Grow class will only be meeting one Sunday during the month of December, due to our earlier worship meeting time. On Sunday, December 8th, we will be meeting at 9 am to address and sign Christmas cards for the loved ones in our community that may need a little extra cheer this holiday season! All are welcome to attend this event and spread some holiday cheer with us!

Sat. Dec. 7th: Project CURE Volunteer Group

Our next trip to the Project CURE Warehouse (2309 Clifton Ave, 37209) is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7th from 9:30 am – 11:30 am. We will be sorting medical supplies. Newcomers are very welcome! For planning reasons we need a head count for our group prior to volunteering. Please RSVP to the church office ASAP if you plan to attend. Thanks and see you there!

Worship at 10 am during Advent

What a wonderful opportunity for community building and sharing in collaboration with Holy Trinity Community Church! During the season of Advent (all the Sundays in December leading up to Christmas), Brookmeade UCC and Holy Trinity CC will be sharing joint worship services beginning each Sunday at 10:00 am. You read that correctly; we will be changing our worship time for the 4 Sundays of Advent so that we can share in joint services that are planned and shared jointly rather than one church hosting another. We will do our best to continue to announce this change, but please reach out to your friends and remind them that worship begins at 10:00 am instead of our regular time for the first 4 Sundays in December. Services will be fuller for both congregations and will be inclusive of both styles of worship. We are looking forward to this beautiful and joyful experience. Please join us and share an invitation to someone you think might enjoy it.

Sun. Dec. 1st: COW Offering

First Sundays of the month we collect our COW (“Contribute Our Wealth”) Offering. Monetary donations are split between Second Harvest of Middle TN and Heifer International. You can also bring canned goods on Sunday morning to donate to Second Harvest. Please designate your check for COW Offering or if you give online you can choose COW offering on the drop-down menu on Tithe.ly. Thank you for supporting these important organizations and helping Brookmeade fight hunger!

UCC Christmas Fund Offering

The Christmas Fund

“And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them…” —Luke 2:9

“The Christmas Fund has been caring for active and retired clergy and lay employees of the United Church of Christ for over 100 years, providing emergency grants, supplementation of small annuities and health premiums, and Christmas “Thank You” gift checks each December to our lower-income retirees.

United Church of Christ congregations and members have blessed the Christmas Fund with their generosity for many years. This year, your care and compassion will be especially appreciated by those servants of the church who are facing a time of need. Thank you!”

Brookmeade will be accepting donations for the Christmas Fund now through the end of December! Just mail a check to the church office with “Christmas Fund” as the designation, or give online via Tithe.ly by choosing “UCC Christmas Fund Offering” in the drop-down menu!

Advent Choir

Brookmeade and HTCC Singers will be joining together this Advent Season for choir performances on the first, second and third Sundays of Advent! Our first rehearsal will be this Monday 11/25 from 6-7 pm at the Brookmeade building, and we will have some more upcoming rehearsals through the next few weeks on Sundays and Wed. 12/11. For full details please contact the church office (brookmeade@comcast.net, 615-352-4702). We would love to have you come and sing with us!

Donate to the Last Minute Toy Store by 12/15

This year we continue our tradition of supporting the Last Minute Toy Store which provides Christmas gifts for families in need. We are currently accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys, and other age-appropriate gifts in the $10 – $25 price range for newborn to 18 yrs of age (please avoid toys that require batteries). Guidelines for Teen Gifts (ages 12-18): Gift cards, valued between $15 – $20, are a great idea! Here are a few stores that are a hit: Bath & Body Works, Walmart, Old Navy, Target, Game Stop, Books-A-Million, Amazon. If you prefer to buy specific items, here are some ideas: remote control drones, blue tooth speakers, karaoke machines, headphones, tool kits, make-up kits, shavers or trimmers, make up mirrors, purses, shoulder bags, curling irons or journals. Please bring donations to the church by Sunday, December 15th. Thank you for your generosity this holiday season!
